Tayrona National Park is 35 km from Santa Marta. I was there in september 2004 and was open. The best way to explore it is to stay in Arrecifes or Canaveral. To go to the park entrance take a minibus from Santa Marta market.
The wild coastline is very beutiful. Along the paths you will see monekys and iguanes. Beware of falling coconuts.
